Hi Anne - thanks for the message and apologises for not getting back earlier.

This year I took on the role of ICT co-ordinator at my school and have been working closely with my Ultranet Coach to learn about some great new resources and most importantly, how I can integrate these into my classroom and share them with other staff.

I launched SuperClubs Plus this year with our 3-6 students which has proven to be a great tool. Initally the students are amazed and live on the site, aiming to get their stars, but once this is done, they tend to loose interest. I'm hoping to find other ways to keep them engaged and look at how we can use this site more in our teaching. I've also developed a wiki for my class, which has been a great place to post online resources based on what topics we are studying and for the students to be able to follow these up outside of classtime. I'm really looking forward to the rollout of the Ultranet next year and how I can link these together.

Personally, I discovered Elluminate this year and have loved the opportunity to access PD and network with others. I'm hoping to use Elluminate in my role with VISTA to facilitate discussion and netowrking session for teachers who look after Student Representative Councils across the state.

Hi Anne -

I remember you coming to one of the online meetings! I'm glad to find this community. Here's one project that I find interesting right now: http://globaleducation.ning.com/forum/topics/paint-the-world-with-light. I like this sort of well structured project that still allows room for people to be creative. To be honest, I'm seeing a lot of holiday oriented projects right now and they don't particularly excite me. I'd like to see people get beyond simple exchanges of cultural ideas/differences and delve into more problem based learning, I guess.

What sort of projects interest you?

Hi Anne,
Yes I am teaching year 12 accounting but not year 11, however I hope to be working pretty closely with our year 11 teacher because he is 1st year out.
A am really pretty much a 'virgin' as far as technology is concerned however with Adrian's arrival at the school I now have the inspiration to start playing a little.
I have actually already created a Ning page (www.mcguireaccounting.ning.com) for my yr 12's but I had intended to only use it with my class next year until I knew what I was doing a bit better and had a bit more confidence. I also created the shell of a page on weebly for the use of the yr 11 class and to see the difference b/n weebly and ning but I won't actually be using that page.
After the conference and a presentation by Sasha I bought myself a livescribe pen which I anticipate using in conjuntion with the ning page and some of the applications you showed in your presentation.
I have no experience with web 2.0 tools and missed the recent online introduction to it but now that the year is winding down I am hoping I'll get some more time to investigate these things.
I am very interested in anything you have going but I have an extreme lack of expertise at this point..
Please have a look at my ning page and let me know what you think!!
Again it was great to meet you and I hope to hear from you soon.

You have me, perhaps, but I do believe in structuring the learning of spelling, that it is not just a haphazard process. All youngsters can learn. There are standard patterns, the thinking curriculum, rules and 'tricks' that students can adopt to maximise their spelling. I encourage my students to use some of about 14 on my web site. Why? Employers tell me that they want evidence of accuracy. Correct spelling is such evidence.

Hi Anne,
I set up a wiki for the Level 3, then supported staff with Level 4 kids. I have used glogs extensively to tailor the Internet to suit what we are learning about, Gizmoz, Toons, Google Calendar, photo sharing, forum discussions, Shelfari, videos, student e-portfolios and lots of interactive learning. We also link digilearn activities each week. All good fun. Would you be able to post a link to the archive of last night's tech talk sessions? I registered successfully but didn't receive an email with the link. Looking forward to joining the team,
Robyn

Hi Anne
Elluminate seems fine for quick calls to DEECD members and has been a good tool for participation in delivering some ICT PD type discussions and forums. I used Interwise for videoconferencing for a while and found that to be quite good when the technology was set up correctly (Which is fairly simple) at all ends. It allowed for videoconferencing outside of DEECD and allowed for quick access through an emailed link to the conference. Lots of file sharing, whiteboard space, interaction, but only 4 people/locations could actually be on the video, the rest is a larger group could only have sound and view others but not be seen and of course access to the whiteboard and other applications.

Hi Anne
I have never used elluminate. I only just found it cos a friend emailed me a link about the tech-tuesdays. This is the reason i joined. Unfortunately tuesdays are our staff meetings, so i may not be able to join in regularly. I would love to become more ICT savvy, so im hoping this is the way!!

Thanks for the comment,
R

Really sorry I think dim dim was an accidental selection - mind you now I want to know what it is and how I can use it at my school!

Thanks Anne. Although I don't think my health is going to improve anytime soon. I have rheumatoid arthritis in my hands and feet and osteoarthritis everywhere else. Nothing seems to work. I joined todays session for the first time. I mainly just listened today, but hopefully I will join in in later sessions. I am a qualified primary school teacher with 3 nieces who are 11, nearly 4 and 2 1/4. Some of this stuff I might be able to use with them. Anyway thanks for your offer of help if I need it. I might take you or someone else up on it sometime. Bye for now.

Anne, I got the link and tried to use it. I followed the process until it kicked Java off. At this point, nothing happened. I tried it in Firefox and Internet Explorer. I tried for about twenty-five minutes, but after 4 o'clock came and went, I gave up.

Anne, Red Space Rocket is a site that I used to help my students. The centrepiece is a blog that I use for information for them. It also has a wiki that we use for collaborate work and a discussion forum, although that it rarely used these days.

I am signed up for tomorrow's session but I am unclear about where exactly I go to take part. I got a confirmation email but did not contain a link.

Thanks for alerting me to the comment Anne. Brendan is a great guy - have you had the pleasure of meeting him?
Glad to hear you recieved Google Wave. I have been using IE and it has been working quite well. Ive just installed Google Gears as apparently it makes the experience richer. Im still learning how to use it, so I can't really comment on it just yet..... Its a matter of finding the time at the moment, but I need to figure it out before VITTA!

hi Anne, thank you for your welcome.
No I don't currently have Ipod touch devices but I have introduced blogs with my students with varying results. Year 7s were more inviting to the use. I worked with 2 other colleagues on the PLP international project this year. It was most inspiring. Our school - Upwey High School- is introducing short throw projectors around the school (eventually most classroom should have one) which will facilitate and innovate the use of audio/visual means - not having to lung around data projector/powerboard/extension/speakers will definitely be more encouraging for teachers!
Being a state school a disappointing issue is the "pay for" internet access for the students which always results in their statement "I don't have any credit left" when it is most crucial.
In Humanities I am encouraging students to use collaborative methods such as Google doc in group work.
Other areas of interest are
1. Citizen Journalism- watched the Youtube videos from digitaljournal and have inspected their site www.digitaljournal.com.
2. Podcasting- although I have done a couple of pds on it - I have not completely mastered it effective use- something to work at. Came across a video (youtube) this morning about a young 12 year old boy who has created his own podcast site= blastr.tv and regularly produces a program
About Blastr

Blastr started out on as a live audio podcast blasting you with tech news, interviews, and reviews. Over the weeks it gained some ground in the podcasting world, especially for the fact that it was hosted by a 12 year old. After 40 episodes being put out every Saturday, Nicholas Montgomery, creator and host of Blastr, felt it was time to make some changes to the show. The changes he made were adventurous and daring, but would make the show more rewarding and enjoyable to watch.

The result? new format of 5 minute or less, blasting you with all the crazy news of web culture.

Well I just got it 2 weeks ago and I love it. I have heaps of applications and I am planning to use it in the classroom in the near future. I have the works of Shakespeare, Grimms fairytales and the like that I pictured I could use with my Drama kids for stimulus. I also have started downloading iTunes U which allows you to download free podcast or videos made by Universities on a wide range of topics. I recently got a series on Greek theatre. What I have come across which is frustrating is the lack of access we can experience at government school. They have even blocked iTunes at school. We also cannot access the WiFi at school as the department have not yet configured the network to cope with iPhones, which means you'll have to use your personal downloads if you want to use it at school.

Hi Anne. I am planning to join some if the sessions coming up actually. I'm lookong into how best to implement ICT across all aspects of the curriculum. I plan to do a Masters in Leadership in the not so distant future that hopefully has an ICT focus looking at how schools can better manage and adapt to technology and how we might take advantage of the way students currently use technology outside of the classroom.
