I like the idea of an e-book gtoup. Many teacher librarians and librarians are looking into the many aspects/types of ebooks that are developing and a number of teachers in schools are also interested in the concept

I have not heard about this but it is something that I am going to look in to

Thanks Anne. I am really interested in some of the information shared and discussed here. The Elluminate is so tempting but as yet can't use it at school. I am also really interested in using nings. I am setting up one with the geography teacher for year 8 students. She is really keen and I want to assist her in her endeavours. Tania Sheko has been working with a year 7 english teacher this semester and it has been quite successful after the technicians finally worked out some infrastructure problems.
I am trying to introduce some students to ebooks this semester - Trying to work out what works best as well as get some of their thoughts on some of the options we plan to use. I hope to share this on the Ning and get ideas and feedback from others as well

Thanks Anne, I have added a comment for everyone and would really love the community here to help me. It is quite different being in a school that is so traditional and I am trying hard to move as many people forward as possible. I am pleased that i have had some good successes so far. Onwards and upwards!

I want to buy a software for my work. I found an academic discount program at Conceptdraw.com. http://www.conceptdraw.com/en/purchase/cdoffice/academic.php?2009

I found out that it also works for training courses.

What do you think about this program? Any suggestions on this?

Hello! Currently I'm looking for some good offers of educational software tools. For example, for creating mind maps or diagrams.

Thanks again - I try to keep my mug off websites but I prefer to see other people with pictures so it is only fair.

Yeah the sessions both went really well despite the technical glitch. Everyone presenting and moderating did such a good job and the feedback I've had from people has been positive. It sounds like there are a few who are keen to follow up, so it is great that connections are being made - it is one of the most important things about these events.

Anne, one of my frustrations as ICT co-ordinator is trying to get staff to utlize what is available. A few attempts were made with blogs and some staff have looked at using Skype but unfortunately little ongoing utlization has been made.

It is a pity more teachers dont see the value of utlizing the internet / Web 2.0 as a way to breakdown the isolation of some schools

And I am soooo slack... welcome to the iPod Touch group :-)
Looking forward to sharing some ideas and strategies. Catch you soon on twitter (I'm a bit absent at school as twitterific on my touch isn't connecting at school.... might try a different app, downloaded at school rather than home.)

ahh I was writing quickly and didn't re-read it... I was replying to Blake, and noticed in his bio he uses them in the class. I know Jarrod Robinson uses the Wii in his classes too.
The DS is the hand held nintendo game console which has a range of really great programs like brain training etc. I haven't used them in my classes, except when I had an amazing student who created a digital art gallery which he was able to put on his DS - and show it... this was before the iPhone was even launched, and iPods were just iPods :) so it was pretty impressive.
Derek Robertson's keynote at last year's VITTA conference was inspiring looking at how he has used them in his classes, it was reprinted in the VITTA journal this year.
VITTA have also been running stuff based on the Guitar Hero Wii stuff... Rock Idol? There were workshops etc over the last holidays... looked like a great program.

Thank you for your welcome, since thinking about myself and Nick are likely to get many questions similar to the ones you've just posed ill respond to your question in the project SATERN group.

We as part of the team working on SATERN see it as a fantastic opportunity to help push education in interesting directions

Hi Anne thanks for the welcome. Yes the netbooks are well used, it would be great if the program can continue. We are weaving PoLT, the e5 model and creating authentic learning tasks as our professional focus, the netbooks add the dimension of C21st teaching/skills. We feel as if we are chasing our tail a little at times but as the lawn bowls season hasn't started that's okay. We are developing our classroom blog, around literacy and reflection, you are welcome to have poke around if you have the time...the kids blogs all link from the classroom blog, http://newgisps.globalstudent.org.au/ ...the classroom blog will add a focus of informing parents more about classroom projects as the term moves on.

Hi Anne - afraid I can't take credit for the visual updates. I will do a bit of a review soon once I get another web based project finished and see if I can make any further improvements.

Cheers Anne - thanks for the heads up on the ning. Looking forward to participating / commenting / reflecting in the coming months. Thanks for the chance to present today too - good for me to get the recognition. See you next Thursday.

Thank you Anne. I found it and I am hoping. I will follow your advice and over some weeks invite all but start simple.

Thanks Anne. Global Teacher or Global student? I will definitely follow your advice. Teachers have to read what kids write or we are missing out on being prt of their learning. Thanks again.
