Educators' Guide to Innovation

Connecting educators interested in innovation

Two interesting school models - Studio Schools & Barefoot University

Studio Schools (UK) - Schools for 14-19 year olds to achieve academic quals and route into university. Focus is on teaching curriculum through practical projects, working through doing, and doing through working. Students work to timetables like a business, and have personal coaches as well as teaches. All schools of this kind are publically funded. Barefoot University (India) - an environmentally and socially sustainable school for everyone, from children through to grandparents. Teaches through innovation & collaboration, with very little funding. See: ted.com/talks/bunker_roy (19.08 mins, posted Oct 2011)

Another interesting school model - The Green School (Bali) - claims to be 'giving its students a relevant, holistic and green education' - classrooms have no walls, children can come and go as they please, as long as they mind the animals. Their website is here: http://www.greenschool.org/ You can hear the founder talk about the school here: ted.com/talks/john_hardy_my_green_school_dream (13.35 mins, posted Nov 2010)
