Great post Dion. So many terrific ideas that can be implemented in schools easily, and in some cases, very cheaply.

Great video Adrian. That's the first time I've seen that but it certainly seems to realistically capture the changes that will be coming in the next decade. The implications for the education sector seem obvious - I hope we are up to it. Froma glob…

Not yet. We think they would be very powerful but haven't had the chance to give them a whirl yet. Because we are not in schools on a regular basis finding a time to embed them is difficult.

I gave it a try and didn't have any problems. I'll put it on slideshare or something similar so you can have a look.

Hi Aaron, have you tried downloading or viewing your ppt presentation. I have tried to access it twice, but failed. Maybe it is the slow internet access that I have both at home and at work!

It's hard to disagree with the logic that a ning offers the ability to create a far more sophisticated online commmunity. The downside comes when only 1 or 2 people are doing all the content/community creation. Then you may as well just have a blog,…

Profile Information

Do you work in the education sector? What is your role?
I work for DEECD in the Southern Metropilitan Region. I am the Regional Innovation Liasison Officer in SMR and a Teaching and Learning Coach in the area of Regeneration.

Prior to working at the regional office I was part of the amazing team at Carwatha College that pioneered teaching in a secondary Inquiry Learning Centre. In addition to being the Year level co-ordinator I was part of an amazing team of maths and science teachers who are the best exponents of team tecahing (in a secondary maths/science program) that I have ever seen.

Australian Schools on iTunesU

Three Australian education networks are now publishing on iTunesU. Catholic schools in Australia, WA Dept. of Education and Scotch College/PLC (Perth) are all now publishing content accessible to all the world's iTunes users.

Greg Whitby summarises the benefits like this:

"As with everything on iTunes U, the new audio, video and text files from Catholic schools are free to anyone visiting the iTunes Store. Students, teachers and lifelong learners can download items of interest including tContinue

Notschool.net

I was lucky enough to spend the morning listening to Jean Johnson and Jonny Dyer from Notschool.net, a British education alternative for students who have failed to connect with mainstream and alternative schools.

During the past 5 years they have seen 6000 young people enage with the program. 76% of participants go on to further education and another 15% move straight into the workforce.

This might sound like any normal school but the type of students must be taken into account. Whilst their… Continue

Education Horizon: 2011

I am part of the planning team for a school that will open in 2011. Part of my work at the moment is to try and predict the landscape (both socially and educationally) that will exist in 2011.

I keen to hear what you see as the critical elements necessary for quality education in the coming years. Knowing of course that we work within a system that can be slow moving beast at times, which of these essential elements do you see as DEFINITE, LIKELY or PIE-IN-THE-SKY?

I'll kick off with three tec… Continue

Hi Aaron,
We've got two new iflip cameras to use at the Showcase and they're great little gadgets. the quality is amazing. I hope we can get them working so we can upload quickly to the ning.

Hi Aaron,
have you figured out how to remove someone else's post? i'd better get this straight before we go live.
Also, i think we'll ask the RILOs what level of permission they feel comfortable with rather than give them all administrator rights. those who only want to be a member can still moderate - they can send us an email if something is dodgy and we can remove it.
