Hi Anne,
Thanks for your comment.
Yes the needs are definitely different especially in using ICT as a teaching tool. We have plasma screens and lots of ICt programs that I have used very successfully, as well as using Word and Powerpoint for a couple of my kids who have a bit more ability. I would definitely like to start a special schools group in the near future.
It has been difficult to introduce photoshop because of the resistance from teachers. They are still using Photodraw which is a totally antiquated program and as I use cs3 (hoping to advance to 4) it is very difficult to move away from photoshop once you have used it extensively. I agree it it expensive software, but you can get licenses at a relatively inexpensive cost.
I have not tried mobile technology, but would love to learn more about what you do in this area as I can see some real possibilities with special kids.
ICT is just fabulous with kids with learning difficulties and you are right there is so much available that it is not difficult at all to draw upon the many resources out there.
I am looking at doing these link ups but I am a bit confused about what the process is.....do you just log onto this page and link up somehow?
Anyway, thanks for the response...I am excited to connect with others.
I am also doing my Masters In Education next year and hope to draw further on my ICT skills to develop my thesis.
Hello Karen and welcome to the Innovators Guide to Innovation. I could imagine that some of your needs would be a little different to those in mainstream education. If you feel confident, you might to like to start a special schools group.
Why has it been difficult for you to introduce photoshop into your school? Is it the students or teachers who are having difficulty. The program can achieve amazing results. I teach IT and as it is expensive software, I do not have it in the lab, but the Visual Arts room has a license. Instead I use irfanview - a free download for image editing.
Have you tried any mobile technology with your students eg iPods? How do you see the use of ICT in engaging your students? The beauty of much of the new technologies, is that there is a broad selection of multimedia and audio literacies that can be drawn upon to help students with learning disabilities. We look forward to sharing with you.
