I was fortunate enough to be asked to 'cameo' keynote the 2010 Innovation Showcase. Below was the keynote description.
A glimpse into the (Un)Classroom
In the global, networked environments of the 21st Century, there is a growing divide between how students prefer to learn and the curriculum that is being offered in many schools. At home, learning is game-based, participatory, peer-assisted and based around personal interests. But at school students are often asked to be passive consumers of content.
In this cameo keynote, Adrian will give you a glimpse into his facilitated, student-driven classroom which is based on his belief that the most powerful thing a teacher can do is to become a learner. He will paint a picture of students focussed on the exploration of current and real-world events, where discussion is encouraged and where students are working in small study groups using technologies appropriate to their work. But most importantly it is a classroom where students are genuinely engaged in their learning.
