Hi Christine, What a shame you had problems with the gmail hack! However, I think that students in grades 5 and 6 should have their own email addresses anyway. The sooner they learn how to behave safely online the better.
Did you make the students add you as an administrator on their blogs?(If you need help with this, just ask). I have asked all my students to make me or their class teacher an administrator, so that I can quickly go in and edit out any problems that might occur. So far, I have not had to do that but it is a good cyber safety mechanism. I have had to talk to students about appropriate content at times, but once discussed, they go back and edit work themselves.

I had a problem when trying to sign up my students on gmail. After signing up 7 students gmail, it 'recognised' me and wouldn't let me create any more. We have since got around that problem by our tech setting up all our 5/6 students with a netscape school email address.

Dear Suz

It actually worked. I got to school this morning and hey presto there was a request for me to approve the post.

I have selected my first student and will get her gmailed next week. We are running an online teen magazine this semester and I want some blogging on teenage things.

I have to say I love the gmail hack to create student accounts, as I then have control to get rid of them if I need to - if the student leaves etc.
my international students are really getting into the blogging, as it gives them time to translate and understand more fully the tasks, and enables them to more clearly articulate their questions, as they have time to formulate, translate etc, which is often difficult for some of our new arrivals in conversation.

Dear Anne - I have registered some one on gmail, have enrolled them in a blog as a contributor and have just received the email asking me to approve it. I have a parent's permission to enrol a student so hopefully next week I will have a student blogging on our student newspaper. Thanks. I am going slowly.

If you are interested in blogging or are blogging, this post by Mrs Smoke, has an amazing list of blogs listing great teacher blogs, specific subject blogs. Please take time to look at it.

Hi Richard, Sue Waters writes for the edublogger and she has written a great post on the different types of users in globalstudent and edublogs. It is called "What are the different roles of users" If you goto the aforementioned link, you should find the answer to your question. I would think that it would be an author or an editor depending on your students. The edublogger has some fantastic articles to help with blogging - from beginner to quite advanced so it is worth subscribing to. Globalteacher also has a lot of resources and advice.

Dear Anne

I am about to add at least one student to contribute this cycle of my unit. DO I use "Blog & User Creator (Advanced)" to do so? Thanks

Hi Anne
Great to see some new activity on the ning. Blogging is a really simple and effective way to get teachers, students and parents started in the online world. Even little kids can do it.

I use Edublogs for my class to review their ICT work and to use an online forum to instruct their friends. I use a blog for the English faculty. I want to have all my students in my class second semester to add a blog to their newspaper website. Edublogs or Myblogs?? Any ideas!!??
