We are entering our second year now with iPads and these are some of my favorite apps:
Nearpod for interactive presentations where every participant has a voice.
Kidblog- a simple, engaging blogging platform made for education. App and website are great.
Notability- for so many things! Can elaborate of people are interested!
Am just starting to experiment with Aurasma for augmented reality!
Qrafter- for QR code quizzes, treasure hunts, challenges...
Explain everything for creating flipped classroom resources and having students make their thinking visible etc

Hope that helps for starters! :)

Hello - would love to hear from people about apps they are finding useful for teaching.

Of course I am totally biased - but this app from Museum Victoria really is great...http://itunes.apple.com/au/app/field-guide-to-victorian-fauna/id423...

Great for looking at your local wildlife!

I have just started collecting them to implement IPADS in our school next year. Not tested them for their educational value. Follow me (gadeugade) on twitter, i have added quite a few links there.

Daphne, I couldn't find the DEECD app you referred to, I tried the search but nothing came up? is it still available?

A good publications can be found by googling ' ipads in special education' this is a DEECD publication

or check out a blog  http://edte.ch/blog/?page_id=424 which has lots of interesting ways to use technology and includes Ipads and ipods

For deaf education, I looove the RIDBC Auslan tutor. Also use Ling 6 sounds, Learn2Listen, BaldiPhonics ( to match mouth shape to sound), and All-About-Sounds to practice phonemes. Also love the flash cards.

Check out the Innovating with technologies (DEECD) iapp... free from the App store (on your ipod, ipad and iphone devices). There you will find 90 great projects (+videos and quotes)of teachers and students using technologies to enhance learning opportunities/outcomes. You can search by VELS domain, technology or keyword. Simply type DEECD into the App store search to download.
