Educators' Guide to Innovation
Connecting educators interested in innovation
Quantum Victoria is a new centre for excellence and innovation in science and mathematics which is currently being built adjacent to La Trobe University, Melbourne. It is one of three new centres currently being built to re-energize science and mathematics education across Victoria and beyond.
Part of our aim is to:
We will focus on using cutting edge, aspirational technologies to engage students in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM). We will have a particular focus on using games technology, providing virtual reality experiences, augmented reality, robotics and mechatronics.
We will provide opportunities for every student and teacher in the state, but will have a particular focus on reaching low SES, rural and remote schools and minority students with a blend of in-house and outreach programs. Whilst the Quantum Victoria building is not expected to be finished until September 2011, we are not waiting till then to start our outreach programs.
Quantum Victoria will deliver an online professional development module, commencing 11th March 2011, that will equip teachers with the skills and tools necessary for teaching in 21st century learning environments. This embedded professional development opportunity will focus primarily on project-based learning (PBL) and the effective integration of ICT in the areas of science, technology, engineering and mathematics.
